The Story Behind
Bolina Sailing

There are many boat tours in Montenegro. Fast boats, crowded excursions, loud music, fixed schedules.
But sailing has always meant something different to us.
At Bolina Sailing, we wanted to create an experience that feels personal, slow, authentic, and deeply connected to the sea. Not just another tour around the Bay of Kotor — but a day that guests genuinely remember long after they leave Montenegro.

A Different Way to Experience the Bay

Our sailing tours begin in Herceg Novi, one of the sunniest and most charming towns on the Montenegrin coast. From there, we sail toward hidden natural coves and quiet parts of the bay that are difficult to reach by land and often missed by larger tourist boats.
What makes Bolina different is simple: we do not rush.
There is no loud atmosphere, no crowded deck, and no feeling of being part of a tourist conveyor belt. Our guests experience the bay the way we have experienced it our entire lives — slowly, peacefully, under sail.
Unlike standard motorboat tours, sailing changes the entire feeling of the journey. The movement is quieter, softer, and more connected to nature. You hear the wind, the sea, and the sounds of the coastline instead of engines and speed.
For many guests, this becomes the most relaxing day of their trip.

| More Than a Boat Tour — A Floating Dining Experience

Food is a very important part of our story.
We both love cooking as much as we love sailing, so we wanted the gastronomic experience on board to feel just as authentic as the sailing itself.
During our tours, guests enjoy a fresh seafood menu prepared with locally sourced ingredients and freshly caught fish whenever possible. Depending on the season and the catch of the day, the menu may include grilled fish, seafood specialties, local cheeses, fresh vegetables, homemade olive oil, and Montenegrin wine.
Everything is served on board, surrounded by the sea and hidden coves of the bay.
There is something special about sharing fresh seafood and a glass of wine while the boat gently moves with the wind — far away from restaurants, crowds, and busy beaches.
This combination of sailing and local gastronomy is one of the things our guests remember most.

Hidden Coves, Swimming Stops & Slow Moments

Every tour is slightly different because sailing depends on the wind, the sea, and the rhythm of the day.
We usually stop in peaceful wild coves around the bay where guests can swim in crystal-clear water, relax on deck, sunbathe, or simply enjoy the silence. These are places we discovered over many years of sailing and places that still feel untouched.
Some guests spend the entire day taking photos and enjoying the scenery. Others simply disconnect completely — reading, swimming, talking, or watching the coastline pass by.
That slower rhythm is exactly what we wanted to create.

A Family Connection to the Sea

Sailing has been part of our lives since childhood.
We both learned from our parents and grew up connected to the sea. Ilija later became a professional competitive sailor and a licensed sailing instructor, while I studied tourism and continued sailing purely from love and passion.
When we met 12 years ago, we realized we shared the same dream:
to combine our love for sailing, hospitality, food, and the sea into one experience.
That is how Bolina Sailing was created.
For us, this is not simply a business. It is a lifestyle we genuinely enjoy sharing with other people.

| Why Guests Choose Bolina Sailing

Guests often tell us that what they appreciate most is the feeling of authenticity and calm.
They are not just booking a boat.
They are spending the day with people who truly live this lifestyle.
Our tours are intentionally intimate and personal. We focus on quality instead of quantity, meaningful experiences instead of mass tourism, and genuine hospitality instead of scripted service.
For travelers looking for a premium yet authentic experience in Montenegro, Bolina Sailing offers something increasingly rare: a chance to slow down and experience the Adriatic in a more personal way.

For us, as inexperienced sailors, it was very impressive how the two handled the boat and the constantly changing conditions. They were both incredibly friendly and very communicative, speaking perfect English, and providing lots of information. The bays we visited were beautiful, with clear turquoise water, and plenty of time for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing. The fresh fish prepared on board was excellent, served with a generous portion of fresh salad and even filleted upon request. All in all, a wonderful experience that we will remember for a long time. After 10 days of vacation here in Montenegro, it was an absolute highlight. Thank you so much ❤️. We wish them both continued success and all the best. Unfortunately, the meeting point sent by Airbnb was incorrect, but the crew informed us in time, and we still arrived at the harbor on schedule. Best regards from Karin and Uwe
